The onset of September means back to school, cooler weather, and some wonderful holidays and events. Let’s start out with Rosh Hashanah, which begins the evening of September 11th. We will be offering round Plain and Raisin Challah for this year’s holiday celebrations. All pick ups will take place Friday, September 11th. (Please note that our traditional challah will not be available to order that day). These tend to sell out every year, so be sure to place your order soon for pick up in Evanston, Libertyville or Winnetka.
Labor Day Weekend Orders Due This Thursday!
Don’t forget to place your Labor Day Weekend orders . . . you won’t want to miss out on our delicious blueberry pie for dessert and brioche buns that are perfect for burgers, pulled pork, crispy friend chicken and more! Take and Bake items and your favorite breads are also available for pre-order on Tock.

Longtime Hewn customers may remember the popular "Food as Medicine" classes we hosted during the bakery's early years. We are thrilled to share that all of that foundational wisdom—and so much more—has been brought together in a powerful new book by integrative medicine leader (and Evanston resident!) Dr. Geeta Maker-Clark.
Join us at the bakery on September 30th at 6:30 PM for a special evening featuring Geeta in conversation with Hewn co-owner Ellen King to celebrate the release of Medicine for All People: Science and Ancient Wisdom for Revolutionary Healing.
As the Director of Integrative Nutrition and Advocacy at Endeavor Health and Co-Director of the Culinary Medicine program at the University of Chicago, Geeta brings two decades of research in plant-based healing, food justice, and ancient wisdom to this paradigm-shattering work.

National Dog Day at Hewn Evanston
Thank you to all the adorable pups who came to our Evanston shop for National Dog Day! We had a blast meeting them. In honor of the day, we're donating $750 to Chicago French Bulldog Rescue, where we found our beloved Mojo. Remember, dogs are always welcome on our patio!
Hewn Loyalty Program
We have had a positive response to our Loyalty Program, which was initially instituted during the construction on Central Street in Evanston when parking was shut down. It was designed as a simple way to reward guests who made the trip and dealt with the inconvenience to visit us. Once the construction ended, we expanded it to Libertyville and Winnetka due to positive feedback from our customers. Below are the details of the program - please note that we cannot separate transactions to add more points - customers earn 1 point per day on a purchase of $10 or more. Redeemable items are listed below.
This our first foray into a loyalty rewards program, so we genuinely appreciate feedback from our community as we continue to refine how it operates. Thank you, as always, for supporting our business!
New Bees Wrap Designs
Last month we shared information about Bees Wrap Bread Bags available for purchase at the store. Both the bags and the wrap continue to be very popular with our customers.
Last week, a new shipment of Bees Wrap arrived with three new designs: Garden Party, Herb Garden and Fresh Squeeze. We hope you like them! Available at all three locations.
Catering
Planning an event? Check out our new catering menu with delicious options! From Breakfast, Sweet, or Cookie boxes in three sizes to sandwich boxes with 16 half-sandwiches, we have it all. Need coffee? Our “Joe to Go” includes everything you need, with regular or decaf options. Order two business days in advance for pick-up. Email us to place your order and check out the menu on our website!
